WELCOME TO ARLINGTON VILLAGE

With lots to do and many interesting places to visit both locally and further afield, Arlington is a hidden gem with something for everyone.

Where exactly is Arlington? This is a not uncommon reaction from people when locals tell them where they live. Yet it has been around a long time – since Roman times to be precise. Arlington, both a village and a civil parish, lies near the foot of the South Downs in a very green and pleasant part of East Sussex, near the river Cuckmere and a safe distance from the busy A27 and A22 roads (but with easy accessibility to them).

The surrounding area of East Sussex has some great places of interest and attractions to visit.

Arlington’s more well-known visitor attractions include its Reservoir, which is both a nature reserve and a vital water source for Eastbourne. (It’s also an open secret that it has the best trout fishing in the south-east). Beautiful Abbots Wood is a popular venue for family picnics, leisurely strolls, horse riding and dog-walking. The Bluebell Walk and Farm Trail at Bates Green Farm attracts hundreds of visitors in April/May.

The network of quiet lanes and unspoilt countryside around Arlington, especially as there are no hills, make it a popular choice for hikers, equestrians and cyclists – Arlington is part of the No.2 National Cycle Route. There are several equestrian centres (including an equine physiotherapy centre) and a whole network of bridle paths in and around the village.

Refreshments from all these exertions can be found at Arlington’s own Tea Garden, or the Yew Tree and Old Oak pubs. Spiritual refreshment is supplied by the village’s ancient church of St.Pancras – in a beautiful setting in the heart of the village.

Arlington’s peace is occasionally interrupted by the enthusiastic and somewhat noisy goings-on at Arlington Stadium, which is host to popular stock car and banger race meetings. It is also the home of Eastbourne Eagles speedway club.

Arlington Village Hall is the hub of the village, hosting many regular events such as a monthly market, plant sales, jumble sales and the annual Produce Show..

All in all, our rural and pretty village of Arlington has a lot more going for it than first appears. Click on the Google map opposite and you’ll never be one of those visitors asking that question “where is it” again.
